Introducing Gerard Hones Division E Governor for the 2014-2015 Toastmasters Year

Congratulations to Gerard Hones. He was nominated and elected the Division E Governor for Toastmasters year 2014-2015. Gerard is a great leader having been the 2013-2014 Area 52 Governor and Club Officer for his home club, Aextreme Toastmasters Club. Gerard is very deserving of this office. Congratulations Gerard!

Division E Contest, April 12, 2014

 

The Division E, 2014 Spring International Speech and Table Topics contest will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2014 from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at the Kathleen Clay Edwards Library Located at 1420 Price Park Rd in Greensboro, North Carolina.

The doors will open at 9:05am for registration and networking. We will start briefings promptly at 9:35am. The contest will start promptly at 10:00am. 

All contestants and judges, please arrive by 9:30am. Coffee will be served. 

Chair City Toastmasters to Host Speechcraft

New Date for Division E TLI Lite

Due to inclement weather, Division E TLI Lite has been rescheduled for February 22nd at Tracy's Little Red School House, 7730 North Point Drive, Winston Salem, NC 27106. Registration opens at 8:30 am with the sessions beginning at 9:00 am. Please come prepared with your Club Leadership Handbook in hand. If you no longer have one, you can download one from http://www.toastmasters.org/CLH.

There is a mandatory charge of $8 for this training. Please register via the district website prior to February 22nd. We will allow payment at the door, but checks need to be made payable to: District 37 Toastmasters or exact change of $8.

In Case of Inclement Weather - TLI Lite Schedule

North Carolina and Fellow Toastmasters, brace for the impending storm. In light of "rumors" of the Storm of the Century, Division E has set an alternate date for Division E TLI Lite Sessions, just in case. If we are unable to hold sessions this Saturday, February 15th due to inclement weather, we will hold the sessions next Saturday, February 22nd at Tracy's Little Red Schoolhouse at 9am. Please keep your ears and eyes open, I will make the official call on Friday, so please do not assume we won't hold sessions on the original date and just show up next Saturday. Stay tuned and be safe.

Eight is the Magic Number

In the past, clubs have needed at LEAST members renewed in order for their club to be considered and active club. I would like to announce that as of the upcoming April 1st dues renewal season, Toastmasters International has changed that requirement to EIGHT (8). Yes, the magic number is now 8. Please make sure your clubs know this and that you especially administer CPR to those clubs with lower membership numbers. I know you all can do it!

Bank of America Toastmasters has the lead story in the YMCA Black & Latino Ahievers Newsletter this month. Under the leadership of Cheryl Orr, this effort to empower our youth via more effective communication skills is a tremendous success! Cheryl & Taryn meet with this group every 3rd Saturday morning. Kudos!

TLI (Toastmasters Leadership Institute)

It's time for Toastmasters Leadership Institute (TLI). Club officers are required to attend a TLI session every six (6) months by Toastmasters International. One of those sessions must be in the Summer and the other in the Winter. 

At least four (4) officers must be trained each session in order of a club to receive its DCP (Distinguished Club Program) points.

District 37 has a TLI West and a TLI East session to make it convenient for members all over the state of North Carolina to attend. Normally, TLI West is centralized around the Raleigh area, while TLI East is centralized around the Charlotte area.

TLI East will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2014, from 7:30am - 12:00m at the Duke Campus at Levine Science Research Center building. To drop off people closest to the registration table, put into Google maps or GPS: 308 Research Drive, Durham, NC 27708. When you get there, make a right and continue to the dead-end circle. For more information, and to register, please visit the District website at d37toastmasters.org.
